Description

Canine Heartworm

Heartworms are uninvited guests of dogs and other related animals such as foxes and coyotes. Mosquitoes bite infected animals and ingest their blood. They can pick up tiny larvae, then take another bite and put them into your dog's body. After about six months, if undetected, your dog will have adult heartworms for the next five to seven years-which may increase with each infected bite. When your dog has symptoms such as fatigue, coughing, and weight loss, these worms may have caused permanent heart damage because they inhibit the heart’s ability to pump blood normally. By this time, he will need veterinary treatment. Effective insect repellents can save your dog's life-and save you money and heartache.
