Symptoms of Giardia infection
Dogs infected with Giardia sometimes have no symptoms at all. If so, symptoms usually appear 7-10 days after ingestion.
Dogs that are more likely to show signs and symptoms are puppies, old dogs, those with other intestinal parasites (such as worms), and those with compromised immune systems.
The symptoms of Giardia are diverse, but in general, these symptoms are most often related to digestive diseases, such as:
Acute or chronic diarrhea;
Nausea and vomiting;
Dehydration
lose weight;
Abnormal stools (pale, greasy, mucus covered, bloody, peculiar smell).
Dogs with Giardia may experience acute diarrhea for a few days, which can lead to dehydration in severe cases. On the other hand, diarrhea can go from time to time and become a chronic problem, making it more difficult to treat and diagnose.
