Description

Canine Anaplasma

Ticks play an important role as a carrier of human and animal disease pathogens. Anaplasma (intracellular, tick-borne alpha-proteobacteria) contains many pathogens important to veterinary medicine, which occur worldwide or only in certain areas. Many of them are zoonotic. Travel souvenirs related to Central European dogs are Ehrlichia canis and flats, which are transmitted by the brown dog tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus, and the phagocytic anaplasma transmitted by the ricin tick, which occurs throughout Central Europe. The range of clinical symptoms includes subclinical infections, mild febrile illnesses, and severe courses with complications or chronic phases. A special case is the relatively newly discovered bacterium Candidatus Neoehrlichia mikurensis, which has so far been mainly reported in human patients with weakened immune functions. Since these pathogens often have non-specific symptoms, diagnosing these pathogens can be a considerable challenge. The use of doxycycline can be successfully treated, and the best preventive measure is to prevent tick infection and the spread of pathogens.
