New——Feline Tritrichomonas Foetus Antigen Rapid Test (TRF Ag)

What is Tritrichomonas foetus?

Tritrichomonas foetus is a very intriguing trichomonad protozoan with respect to its varied choice of residence in the different host species. It is an obligate parasite of the reproductive and the gastrointestinal tract of bovine and feline host respectively, leading to trichomonosis. Bovine trichomonosis is a sexually transmitted disease whereas feline trichomonosis is a disease with a purported fecal-oral route of spread. Further, the trichomonad is a commensal in the nasal passages, stomach, cecum and colon of swine host.

Tritrichomonas foetus in cats is a highly contagious disease that tends to affect cats that live in catteries, shelters or other areas with multiple animals. Given Tritrichomonas foetus’ ease of travel between affected felines, it can spread rapidly in contained environments. If one cat in a household is diagnosed with Tritrichomonas Foetus in, chances are all of the household cats, or cats that share the same litter box, are affected. This is true regardless of whether the other cats are showing symptoms yet.

Clinical sign:

While some cats suffering from Tritrichomonas foetus can remain asymptomatic, meaning they show no symptoms of disease, there are common signs should be watched out for. These may include:

· Diarrhea

· Loose stool

· Stools may be smelly

· Weight loss

· Dehydration

· May affect younger or immunocompromised cats more frequently

——To distinguish Giardia and Tritrichomonas foetus

Tritrichomonas foetus looks similarly to Giardia and is often misdiagnosed for it when viewed under a microscope.Treatment of Tritrichomonas foetus is different than the treatment of Giardia, and it is important that your vet uses the fecal slide and analysis to determine which parasitic infection, if any, the cat may have.

INTENDED USE

The Feline Tritrichomonas Foetus Antigen Rapid Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of Tritrichomonas foetus antigen (TRF Ag) in cat’s feces specimen.

Assay Time: 5-10 minutes

Specimen: feces

TEST PROCEDURE

- Collect cat’s fresh feces with the swab from cat’s anus or from the ground.

- Insert the swab into the provided assay buffer tube. Agitates it to get efficient sample extraction.

- Take out the test device from the foil pouch and place it horizontally.

- Suck the treated sample extraction from the assay buffer tube and place 3-4 drops into the sample hole “S” of the test device.

- Interpret the result in 5-10 minutes. Result after 15 minutes is considered as invalid.
