Description

Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus Antibody Rapid Test (PRRSV Ab Test)

Catalog No.:JIP505

¤  INTENDED USE

The Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus Antibody Rapid Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus Antibody (PRRSV Ab) in pig’s serum, or plasma specimen.

Assay Time:  5-10 minutes

Specimen: serum, plasma, or milk specimen.

¤  TEST PROCEDURE

- Collect pig’s fresh whole blood, and get the serum or plasma specimen for use. Immediately apply the testing once collected the specimen.

¤  WHAT IS PRRSV?

PRRS is an acronym (porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome) for a viral disease characterized by two overlapping clinical presentations, reproductive impairment or failure in breeding animals, and respiratory disease in pigs of any age. PRRS is the most economically significant disease to affect US swine production since the eradication of classical swine fever (CSF).

¤  WHAT IS THE CLINICAL SIGN?

Breeding pigs:

  • Decrease in conception
  • Increase in premature birthing, late term abortions, stillborn or weak piglets and mummified foetuses.
  • High preweaning mortality
  • Anorexia
  • Fever
  • Perhaps respiratory distress or vomiting
  • Blue colouring due to decrease blood flow (cyanosis) of the ears, abdomen and vulva

Young pigs:

  • Fever
  • Depression
  • Lethargy
  • Pneumonia
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Stunted growth due to systemic disease
  • Increased post weaning mortality

¤  How is PRRSV transmite?

PRRSV spreads through direct contact, and may also be transmitted though artificial objects such as vehicles. Artificial insemination also transmits the virus as it is present in semen as well as in nasal secretions, urine, mammary secretions and faeces. Pregnant sows may pass the virus on and deliver persistently infected piglets.

¤  Disease prevalence:

PRRS is found in most areas of the world where pigs are raised. Although genotypes 1 and 2 predominate in Europe and North America, respectively, both have spread to countries such as China, Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Korea among other countries in Asia.
