Description

Avian Salmonella spp. Antigen Rapid Test (Salmonella Ag)

Catalog No.:JIA403

¤  INTENDED USE

The Avian Salmonella spp. Antigen Rapid Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of Avian Salmonella spp. antigen (Salmonella Ag) in feces from avian cloaca or ground. Eggs contaminated with Salmonella could also be detected with the auxiliary of enrichment broth.

Assay Time:  5-10 minutes

Specimen:  feces, eggs

¤  PRINCIPLE

The Avian Salmonella spp. Antigen Rapid Test is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay. The test device has a testing window for the observation of assay running and result reading. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and a C (control) zone before running the assay. When the treated sample was applied into the sample hole on the device, the liquid will laterally flow through the surface of the test strip and react with the pre-coated monoclonal antibodies. If there is Salmonella spp. antigen in the specimen, a visible T line will appear. The C line should always appear after a sample is applied, which indicates a valid result. By this means, the device can accurately indicate the presence of Avian Salmonella spp. antigen in the specimen.

¤  PRODUCT  BRIEF

Salmonella spp is a Gram-negative bacterium that can cause severe foodborne illnesses in humans and animals. It is a common cause of bacterial infection in avian species, including chickens, turkeys, ducks, and geese. The transmission of Salmonella occurs through the fecal-oral route, and contaminated eggs can also spread the bacteria to humans. Therefore, the detection of Salmonella is vital to prevent foodborne disease outbreaks.

The Avian Salmonella spp Antigen Rapid Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay that can qualitatively detect the presence of Avian Salmonella spp antigen in fecal samples from avian cloaca or ground eggs contaminated with Salmonella. The test is designed as a rapid screening tool that provides results within 20 minutes. This test provides a convenient and efficient way to screen for Salmonella spp in poultry breeding farms, hatcheries, and food processing facilities.

The Avian Salmonella spp Antigen Rapid Test kit contains everything required to perform the assay. The kit consists of a test cassette, sample diluent, and dropper. The test cassette is a plastic device that has a strip of membrane embedded with the Salmonella-specific antibody. The sample diluent is a buffered solution that is used to dissolve the fecal sample or egg content. The dropper is used to dispense the diluted sample onto the test strip.

The assay procedure is straightforward and can be performed by anyone with minimal training. Firstly, a small amount of fecal sample or ground egg content is collected and transferred into a sterile container. The sample diluent is added to the container, and the mixture is vortexed. The diluted sample is then dispensed onto the sample well of the test cassette using the dropper. The sample migrates along the strip, and if the Salmonella antigen is present in the sample, it will bind to the Salmonella-specific antibody immobilized on the test line. The formation of a red line on the test strip indicates a positive result.

The Avian Salmonella spp Antigen Rapid Test has several advantages over conventional Salmonella detection methods. The rapid test is easy to use, and the results are available within 20 minutes. The test is highly specific and sensitive, with a detection limit of 10 CFU/mL of Salmonella. The test is designed to detect a broad range of Salmonella serovars, making it suitable for use in a diverse range of avian Salmonella infections. Moreover, the test requires minimal equipment and no specialized training, making it a more cost-effective and accessible approach.

In conclusion, the Avian Salmonella spp Antigen Rapid Test is a valuable tool for rapid and accurate screening of avian Salmonella spp antigen in fecal samples and egg contamination. The test's high sensitivity and specificity, ease of use, and quick results make it a practical option for poultry breeders, hatcheries, and food processing facilities to monitor and control the spread of Salmonella infections.
